Actor Pauly Shore posts a reply to Richard Simmons' disapproval of him playing him in an upcoming biopic. Comedian Shore recently played Simmons in a short film called The Court Jester.
Around the time this film was announced, a feature-length biopic also starring Shore was also announced to be in development.
Now, Shore offers a long reply to Simmons’ disapproval of the biopic. In his post, Shore said that he “was up all night crying” reading Simmons’ post about the biopic.
He expressed the fact that he has a great respect for Simmons, saying “I love you, Richard, and so did my mom.”
Shore went on to explain how proud he is of the biopic that he is developing,
saying that it is going to “turn out amaze-balls.” He even signed the post “Your old friend Pauly Shore.”
Shore also dedicated time in the post to defending his own casting as Simmons.
The actor questioned “who’s better to play [Richard Simmons] in a movie than ME?”
He went on to say that A-list actors like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio would not be playing Simmons.
Shore deemed himself a “perfect” choice because “everyone already thinks” he is Simmons.
The Richard Simmons Biopic Controversy Explained
Shore’s post comes after a recent Tweet from Simmons that addressed the film. In this Tweet, Simmons wrote “I just read that a man
I don’t know is writing my biopic starring Pauly Shore.” He assured his followers that he did not “approve of this movie,”
and mentioned that he is developing his own film with a major studio. Implying a boycott call for the Shore movie, Simmons wrote “Wait for this movie,” referencing the biopic that he is supposedly in talks for.
Shore’s casting as Simmons’ is a long-time coming considering the amount of comparisons made between the comedian and the fitness guru.
For years, fans of both Simmons and Shore have pointed out the physical likeness between the two men.
Even before a short film and feature biopic about Simmons were being developed,
Shore’s name was often floated as a figure who should play the fitness icon if there ever were to be a movie about him.
Thus, it was cause for excitement when Shore was announced to be starring in both The Court Jester and a full-length Simmons biopic.
This attitude was not shared among all, including Simmons, who was also reactive at the time. Shortly after the announcement of the biopic, Simmons wrote that he never gave permission for the film.
His recent post is even more direct in voicing his disapproval for the Shore biopic. Simmons’ dismay over his own biopic is disheartening as the film continues its development, but hopefully the movie will still honor his career and legacy.
